Here I sit, exhausted, restless and over worked. Fly fishing is alwasy on my mind, whether it be tying, fishing or planning the next big trip ( haha, jk I dont have money like that.) I've been so busy these past weeks doing overtime that the other activities in my life get pushed to the wayside. Although, this past weeks have been hectic, I did make time to go to the Indy boat and travel show along with the deer and turkey ( Yes I try to hunt, Just like fishing I'm no good.) It's the largest Outdoor expo in the Midwest and It's a good time, held every year at the fair grounds in Indianapolis.
My first stop was at the Moving Waters booth, it was a great set up with lost of apparel and a huge great big selection of outstanding kayaks and paddling as well as great information about the local waters and fly fishing. I want to thank them for having a great set up and promoting Indiana and kayak fishing.
Even though fly fishing wasn't the main focus of the expo there was a few booth's that kept my attention. The booth that kept my attention the longest ( thats not easy I have ADHD, ha ask my wife she will agree I have the attention span of gnat) was the booth from Ripple Guides
It was a great chat with the head guide Dustan Harley as he easily tyed up some bugger pattern flies, It was a size 1 hook wrapped with .025 lead wire and a orange cone head bead that would attract any hungry smallie in the area, he easily tyed on yellow sili legs that would provide great action, along with chocolate colored chenille and marabou. He gave me info on the birrage of questions I had about being a guide, what is was like when he first started and the fishing and fishery conditions in the area. We talked in great detail about the smallmouth fishing that was available in the St. Joes river. Ive personally never fished the St. Joes but have heard great things about the river and the fish within. It is well known river system that anglers have great success on and is an excellent river to float. I'm excited to fish the St. Joes the summer and try my hand at slaying smallies until my arms hurt. In ur short time chit chatting Dustan Provided me with great info and gave me the urge to plan my next trip for a fly fishing weekend wade. #theweekendwade
